Candide, or Optimism is a satirical tale, first published in 1759, and in a new Polish translation by Tadeusz Boy-Żeleński: Candide, or Optimism. A work translated from the German manuscript of Dr. Ralf with contributions found in the pocket of the doctor who died in Minden in the year of our Lord 1759. The first Polish edition translated by Jacek Przybylski dates back to the times of the First Polish Republic and was published in 1780. The title character, Candide, who at the beginning of the story lives in hothouse conditions ("earthly paradise") in a castle in Westphalia. However, due to an unfortunate coincidence, he is banished from it. Wandering through various countries and continents, he experiences incredible adventures. They are the ones that constantly put his faith in the goodness of the world at risk.
The binding was handcrafted by Magdalena Bulanda.

The whole is illustrated with graphics by Jan-Michael Moreau prepared for the 70-volume edition of Voltaire's works prepared for printing by Pierre Augustin de Beaumarchais in Kehl in 1787
