Collection: Konstantinos Petru Kavafis
Konstantinos Petru Kavafis, Greek: Κωνσταντίνος Πέτρου Καβάφης (born April 29, 1863 in Alexandria, died there on April 29, 1933) – an early modern Greek poet, strongly influenced by ancient literature.
Considered one of the most outstanding poets of the 20th century, and not only Greek ones. He made his debut with a collection of poems Poiemata in 1904. Ultimately, he left only about 200 poems. During his lifetime, he did not publish a single book, remaining almost unknown as a literary creator. In Poland, Selected Poems (1967), Selected Poems (1979) were published, and finally Collected Poems (1992, 1995) – the result of many years of work by translator Zygmunt Kubiak. In 2011, a selection of Kawafis's poems was published, translated by Antoni Libera, in 2013, a selection translated by Ireneusz Kania, and in 2014, the so-called Canon (154 poems intended for publication by Kawafis himself) translated by Jacek Hajduk. Finally, in 2019, Austeria Publishing House published "All Poems" translated by Ireneusz Kania.
