Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov (Russian: Михаил Афанасьевич Булгаков; born 3 May?/15 May 1891 in Kiev, died 10 March 1940 in Moscow) was a Russian writer and playwright. The creator of, among others, The Master and Margarita , one of the most important works of the 20th century, as well as a number of novels, short stories, and plays. The first translation of the novella Fatalne Jaja (translated by Edmund Jezierski, 1928) to appear in Polish was the one published first .
