Collection: Stanislaw Trembecki

Stanisław Trembecki of the Prus coat of arms, (born probably on May 8, 1739 in Jastrzębniki near Pińczów in the Sandomierz voivodeship, died on December 12, 1812 in Tulczyn) – Polish poet of the Enlightenment period, within the framework of classicism as a literary movement, royal secretary. Playwright, translator and historian.

He made his debut in the early 1770s. However, he was a writer out of necessity and unwillingly (for example, he wrote his most famous poem in exchange for the opportunity to reside in Tulczyn ).

He was irritated by his own work, he often signed with other people's names (he probably used 14 pseudo-, crypto- and allonyms) or even wrote anonymous works, which makes it difficult to identify his texts.

In his literary work he was permeated with the influence of French classicism literature and culture. He created political poems, fairy tales, and poems (the most famous is Sofiówka from 1806).
