Cavafy in Greek

A little surprise for our readers. They will receive a trial print of Kavafis's "Letter of a Byzantine Aristocrat in Exile Writing Poems", printed in the Greek alphabet. At the end of 2018, Rambler should publish a collection of Kavafis's poems, printed in Greek. The typeset book is an electronic version of Greek fonts cut around 1805 for the excellent French publisher Pierre Didot. It will be printed on Annonay vellum paper, on which the monumental Didot editions of Virgil (1798), Horace (1799), Fontaine (1802) and Racine (1801–5) were once published. The whole thing will be bound in accordance with neoclassical tastes.

It is true that Greek today is extremely hermetic, but perhaps its beauty will encourage someone to learn it?
