Napoleon with Johannot

Napoleon with Johannot, Johannot with us – this is how we can sum up the extraordinary discovery we are presenting today.
We have written many times on this blog about the Johannot paper used in our editions of Zygmunt Krasiński's Nie-Boska Komedia or Angela Soltys' Między Konstytucję a Targowica . We have presented the history of its creation and the exceptional books that have been published on it.
This time, "Uncle Google" surprised us with an extraordinary find - photos of a letter signed by C. Cornetto on September 29, 1812. This document was written on paper with an impressive watermark depicting Napoleon Bonaparte himself (or rather Bounaparte, as William Pitt used to say), with the signature: Napoleon Empereur des Français, Roi d'Italie and the imperial eagle. On the margin, there is a filigree: F. Johannot , which means that the Emperor of the French himself appreciated the craftsmanship of the Annonay paper mill.
Some may say many things about Napoleon, but one thing is certain – he had excellent taste. So: Napoleon with Johannot, Johannot with us!
