Phèdre (French: Phèdre ) is a tragedy written by Jean Baptiste Racine in 1677. The plot is taken from mythology and tells the story of Phèdre's unhappy love for her own stepson, Hippolytus.
Book set with Linotype Didot font and printed on Century Laid cotton paper with filigree.
ILLUSTRATIONS
Taken from the famous edition Oeuvres of Jean Racine (1801) prepared by Pierre Didot. This luxurious, three-volume edition of Racine's works has gone down in history as the "Louvre Editions."
On the frontispiece there is a graphic by Pierre Paul Prud'hon, depicting Melponne admitting Racine to the ranks of the Immortals . Inside the book are the works of Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson (1767-1824).
