Organ. Poem heroicomic Kajetan Węgierski is a satire dedicated to Ignacy Krasicki. Its text circulated for several years in copies. It was first published in 1784 – and without giving the name of the author – by the Krakow publishing house of Ignacy Causeway a few years after the poet left the country. And it caused a scandal, even though the publisher allowed himself a little censorship, removing sensitive political sentences from the introduction addressed to the Prince-Bishop of Warmia.

Alone Hungarian is one of the most interesting figures – rich in extraordinary biographies – of the times of Stanisław August Poniatowski. Born in 1755 in Grabowiec, a village 10 km from Biała Podlaska. The Węgierski family was closely associated with hetman Jan Klemens Branicki, making a considerable career at his court. And, as it were, amassing a considerable fortune in the process. Young Kajetan, raised at home, in 1764 went to the Warsaw Collegium Nobilium, the forge of Polish elites at that time. In 1779, he left with Kajetan Potocki on a journey around Europe, from which he never returned to the Republic. Over the course of several years, he visited not only Italy, France and England, but also the United States and Central America (1783). He died at the age of just 31 in 1787 in Marseille.

Although it is hard to believe, he made a considerable fortune during his travels thanks to… playing cards. He sat at the table with, for example, the Prince of Wales, later King George IV, with whom he is said to have won five thousand pounds (today it is about 430 thousand pounds).

Organ. Poem heroicomic were printed on cotton Somerset and typeset in letters cut by William Martin for the publisher William Bulmer about 1790. 25 copies were printed. The original language has been retained.
