Fear in the Castle

Fear in the Castle. A True Novel written by Anna Olimpia Mostowska (ca. 1762–ca. 1811), a character almost completely forgotten in our country. Completely wrongly, because she is the author of a number of translations and, above all, the first Polish “Gothic novel”, i.e. Fear in the Castle . Above all, a well-educated person, knowing the world and having completely justified intellectual ambitions. For a number of years, between 1787 and around 1804, she was the wife of Tadeusz Mostowski, a politician and above all one of the most outstanding Polish publishers.

The novel was first published published by the Vilnius printing house Józef Zawadzki in 1806. We based our edition on this edition.

Fear in the Castle. A True Novel It was set in the Bodoni font (14 points), similar to another, much more famous Gothic novel of that time, Otranto Castle Horace Walpole. The sixth edition of this novel has just been printed by Giambattista Bodoni in Parma in 1791.

We printed 25 copies on cotton cylinder paper  Johannot . Hand-made binding in half leather, volume 74 pages. Format: 175×250 mm, volume 72 pp. Block edges stained.
